Gerhard Thiedemann

Gerhard Thiedemann (*1953), lawyer and diplomat, has served as German Ambassador in Pyongyang, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (2010-2013), later in Ulan Bator, Mongolia and Wellington, New Zealand while also accredited to six South Pacific island states.  He is retired since 2019 and lives in Berlin and Hamburg. He now serves as chairperson of the German-Korean Society (Hamburg) and as board member of an NGO for nature protection areas on islands and coastal areas of the Baltic and North Sea, some of them having National Park status. He is married and has two adult children.
