Dr. Marcus Granegger studied biomedical engineering in Vienna and earned his doctorate at the Medical University of Vienna. During his time at Berlin Heart, he worked on novel blood pump systems before establishing his own research groups at the Universities of Zurich and Charité Berlin, which focused in particular on artificial hearts and innovative circulatory support systems for children with congenital heart defects. Since 2023, he has been an adjunct professor of cardiovascular engineering and head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Mechanical Circulatory Support at the Medical University of Vienna. His professional career has been characterized by the close connection between technology and clinical practice, with a clear focus on the development of pediatric artificial hearts—from digital simulation and experimental test platforms to clinical translation.
